Minutes of the Newhaven Branch Meeting
held at the Labour Club on Sun March 18th 1956

E. King & C. Wickenden.
Minutes were read of previous meeting and passed as a true record. Proposed by Bro. W. Ware and seconded by Bro. D. Smith.
A circular was read from Head Office concerning Physical and Visual examinations for Footplate Grades, and a discussion followed.
A discussion then took place on Sunday Work at the Depot and a resolution was passed, proposed by H. Allen and Seconded by W. Mullett, ‘That a steam Sunday be placed in the ‘Dual Link’, and that this be finalised by at the next Branch meeting.
It was, proposed by H. Allen and Seconded by C. Wickenden that a protest be registered with Head Office in respect of the new restrictions on Continental and Channel Island Steamers, and that the Secretary be instructed to write at once.
Another discussion took place on the position of the senior Passed Firemen, a complaint being made that the two senior men were on the same shift, it was , proposed by H. Allen and Seconded by V. Morris that the L.D.C. get one of the men involved, moved on the other shift.

The meeting opened at 11.00 a.m. and in the absence of Branch Chairman (on duty) it was proposed be Bro. J. Lower and seconded by Bro. W. Mullett. That Bro. J. Giles be Chairman.
The minutes were read of previous meeting and passed as a true record by Bro. R. Morriss and seconded by Bro. D. Goatcher.
Discussion then took place in Sunday work and it was to leave the position of Sunday work as at present until the Winter working and a meeting be held in August for this purpose. Proposed by Bro. W. Mullett and seconded by D. Renville.
A new Rest Day Roster was reviewed as proposed by Management, it was proposed by Bro. W. Mullett and seconded by Bro. M. Giles. 'That the new roster be excepted.
Complaint was made by Bro. R. Morris, that spare drivers were over looked for driving on Sunday's, it proposed by Bro. J. Lower and seconded by Bro. F. Goff. ‘That the L.D.C. take this matter up with the management.
For the forthcoming E.C. election it was proposed by Bro. J. Lower and seconded by Bro. W. Mullett. That the Branch support Bro. P.G. Hockling. The above proposals were all carried.
